Halloween is the one of the oldest holidays still celebrated today. It's one of the most popular holidays, second only to Christmas. So before we start showing you all the fabulous designer outfits & accessories we’ve found for your stylish Halloween Parties, I would like to share with you a little of the history and facts of Halloween! What is it actually a celebration of? And how did this peculiar custom originate? After knowing a little history of Halloween, it will make your Halloween holiday celebration even more fascinating.
The word itself, “Halloween” actually has its origins in the Catholic Church. It comes from a contracted corruption of All Hallows Eve. November 1, “All Hollows Day” (or “All Saints Day”), is a Catholic day of observance in honor of saints. But, in the 5th century BC, in Celtic Ireland, summer officially ended on October 31. The holiday was called Samhain (sow-en), the Celtic New year.
One story says that, the Celts believed the souls of the dead roamed the streets and villages at Halloween night. Since not all spirits were thought to be friendly, gifts and treats were left out to pacify the evil and ensure next years crops would be plentiful. This custom evolved into trick-or-treating. Also as the villagers naturally did not want to be possessed by the unfriendly spirits, so on the night of October 31, villagers would dress up in all manner of ghoulish costumes & noisily paraded around the neighborhood, being as destructive as possible in order to righten away spirits looking for bodies to possess.
The Jack-o-lantern custom probably comes from Irish folklore. As the tale is told, a man named Stingy Jack, who was notorious as a drunkard and trickster, tricked Satan into climbing a tree. Jack then carved an image of a cross in the tree's trunk, trapping the devil up the tree. Jack made a deal with the devil that, if he would never tempt him again, he would promise to let him down the tree. According to the folk tale, after Jack died, he was denied entrance to Heaven because of his evil ways, but he was also denied access to Hell because he had tricked the devil.
The Devil tossed Jack burning coal from the fire of hell to light his way. Jack put the coal into a carved-out turnip and has been roaming the Earth with ever since. The Irish began to refer to this ghostly figure as "Jack of the Lantern," and then, simply "Jack O'Lantern." Today we commonly spell it jack-o-lantern or jack-o'-lantern. But when the Irish immigrants came to America, they found that pumpkins were far more plentiful than turnips. So the Jack-O-Lantern in America was a hollowed-out pumpkin, lit with an ember.

As always, Be well, and look fabulous ! & Happy Halloween !!
When you walk into any department stores or designer boutiques, there are oceans of luxury goods that flooded the stores with flashy, flamboyant, in your face “I am a Rich Bitch” kinda clothing, handbags & accessories …. Which I am a big fan of some of them! Just like some of my favorite designer’s creations such as Christian Lacroix, Dolce & Gabbana, Versace. But ! There is a part of me (maybe I have a split personality haha!) that I’ve always appreciate the “Hidden Luxury” details that is just luxurious without letting everyone know you’ve paid thousands of dollars for it and ONLY you know it’s supreme quality, workmanships & details that has goes into making the piece of art.
As many of you already know, I’ve been smitten with Fendi’s “Peekaboo” handbags ever since it was first released back in winter of 2008. The peekaboo handbags fits perfectly with the theme of today’s topic “Hidden Luxury & Understated Elegance” ! Outside of the bag is made of various luxurious yet subtle materials such as calfskin, alligator, suede, goatskin …. But the surprise is inside of the bag!
Each season, Fendi creatively selecting different type of luxury materials to line the bag, from snakeskin, pony hair, fur to leather plated with 24K Gold to create that “Peekaboo” effect! So when you unbuckle the turn dial closure at the top to reach into the bag to grab your wallet or stuff out of the bag, people will see a “Peek” of that hidden luxurious lining inside of the peekaboo satchel. But when you close the bag, it is just an understated elegant handbag that ONLY you know the special surprise inside the bag!
I am so lucky to find one of the 5 Fur lined Fendi Peekaboo bag that’s available in the USA from Barneys New York department store in Las Vegas! This is the Large size Fendi Peekaboo, measures 16"W x 12"H x 7"D it’s perfect size for any female or male fashionistas to carry! It is actually big enough to fit a Mac iBook Air laptop into the bag! Perfect to carry around town shopping, meeting friends for brunch or dinner or even use it for work (well I would suggest other style of peekaboo that has more casual & durable lining such as Fendi Zucca logo canvas lined or suede lining version for carrying documents & laptop for work).
The fur that’s used inside of this limited edition Fendi Peekaboo bag is skunk fur. I was a little concerned like many other fashionistas who was eyeing this fabulous satchel ….. “Skunk fur?! Will it smell stinky?” and since now I’ve own the bag now, I can confirm and lay this rumor to rest that the skunk fur in this bag does NOT smell stinky! In fact, the fur is so soft & luxurious, once you stick your hand into the bag …. You don’t want to take your hands out of the bag! haha
If you are interested in getting one of your own very special Fendi Peekaboo Satchel, here are couple of my favorite sales person that are friendly & professional! In the oceans of handbag that’s available in the store, it’s hard to find a handbag that’s appropriate for a “Lady” & can be carry to any occasions. Some are just over the top biker girl looks with spikes & chains, or just way too sexy and glittery and makes you look like an expensive hooker haha! So when I saw this Dolce & Gabbana Cervo deer skin & Python Doctor Satchel Bag, it screams “ That’s the kind of handbag every Lady should have” !
Dolce & Gabbana Cervo Deer Skin Bag
Available at Neiman Marcus.com $1945
What usually comes into your mind when you think of the fabulous Dolce & Gabbana women? Super sexy & chic goddess who is wearing some kind of black chantilly lace covered bustier with a skintight leopard print pencil skirts at all the posh restaurants, clubs & vacation spots… and at the VIP section of course! But for fall winter 2011 collection, I am pleasantly surprised by this bag! The D&G signature sexy leopard print is hidden inside of the bag, so when you close the bag, it’s just a super chic and classy handbag that is appropriate from your office to after work cocktails! A perfect bag for both day and night!
What I really love about this bag is it’s mixing with the old time vintage charm of a lady-like doctor’s bag with 4 big roomy compartments! As we all know, our handbags can be like a black hole, it’s hard to find the key, mobile phone or our lipsticks sometimes if you just throw everything into the bag. But with this fabulous bag, there is this super sexy framed center compartment that is lined with D&G’s signature sexy leopard print with push-lock closure to put all your valuable items like wallet. Then there are extra compartment one at front & back side of the bag to hold your scarf, keys, lipsticks and to hold more things (every women will understand, you can never bring enough stuff in your purse! That’s just how we roll ok!?) there is an exterior zip pocket at the front to hold your mobile phone & small items for easy access. If you are in the mood for exotic skin & a bold statement, do not worry! After all it is Dolce & Gabbana ! so you might like this fabulous bag done in flame red python !
