The Hairstylist guru Vidal Sassoon passed away in his Beverly Hills home today 5-9-2012 at age 84. When my mother was still a young girl back in the 1950s, women's hair was heavily styled, curled, teased into a shape that doesn't move and almost looks like you're wearing a helmet! until Vidal Sassoon came along in the 1960s, his creative vision revolutionize how women dress their hairs & set the complete new look in the world of fashion.
Here is the trailer of "Vidal Sassoon The Movie"
What made Vidal Sassoon's cut so revolutionary was his creative cuts that require almost no styling necessery!, you can just "Wash & Wear" and everything will just fell into place perfectly every time! He has liberated women all over the world & unshackled them from curling irons & hairsprays.
"My idea was to cut shape into the hair, to use it like fabric and take away everything that was superfluous," Sassoon said in 1993 in the Los Angeles Times, "Women were going back to work, they were assuming their own power. They didn't have time to sit under the dryer anymore."
His "wash and wear" styles included the "Bob", the "Five-Point cut" and the "Greek Goddess," a short, tousled perm inspired by the "Afro-marvelous-looking women" he said he saw in New York's Harlem.
His new & innovative hairstyle had all the Fashionistas, Hollywood & Broadway movie stars all wanting to get the new look!
Then in the 80s, Vidal Sassoon expanded his salons to the United States & developing a line of shampoos and styling products bearing his name. His advertising slogan was "If you don't look good, we don't look good" has became a well known phrases.
And here is one of the many Sassoon commercial in the 80s
Not only Vidal Sassoon's hair products are popular in the USA, it was widely popular in other countries, too! Here are two Vidal Sassoon ad campaigns that was styled by famous stylist Patricia Field (whom styled the hit show Sex and the city).
